Black Pig’s definition

Black Pig is defined with the range including American Berkshire and England Berkshire. In addition, accepted theory about Black Pig is called Roppaku wo motte Kurobuta (Black Pig bearing Six White). Black Pig is not called Makkuro (intense Black).

Roppaku, or the six white spot that is hand, feet, on the face between the eyebrows and the end of tail is fixed heredity with white hair. Hence, there is pure breed. It doesn’t consist of hybrid.

Productivity and health

Market distribution and price

The market of production and shipment, in every prefectures area is traded by butchering, and then depend on distributor, sold it by auction, but Black Pig never sold by bidding/ auction. It is sold directly to Supermarket or Department store, etc and with reliable partner who enter into trade agreement.

About the price, for common pigs, the market price fluctuation is very severe and is determined by the balance of supply and demand. In common-sense terms the market price of 1 kg with bone is 400 Yen in annual average, with tax become 430 Yen.

The price for Black Pig, annual regular trading price of 1 kg at the present moment is 650 Yen, with tax becomes 682 Yen.

The common pigs’ annual residual income for 1 head is vulnerably reaching 30,000 yen while Black Pig is strongly reaching 50,000 yen. The average weight for the whole body with bone is 76 kg, while Black Pig is 80 kg.

Current situation of Japan

Currently, in Japan’s scale of breeding of the pigs’ mother, is covering about 1,000 heads up to 10,000 heads, requesting scale merit for head count scale, balancing the low cost or improvement of productivity and fleshy. Toward imported product, implementing the appeal of domestic meat and planning to define the satisfaction of consumer needs these days.

Black Pig, comparing with this condition, for the whole body, the scale of breeding of pigs’ mother is about lower than 100 heads. Therefore the current condition in the surrounding of whole country’s consuming region is keeping the location and Black Pig’s individual characteristics, with small scale of planned production capacity.

Upcoming problem

In pork of FTA era, Japan’s meat consumer’s main distribution, not apply only to pork; consumer market’s agricultural commodity became the world’s consumer market. As the situation stands, what is left is, it is difficult for Black Pig.

About animal product, in international competitive power, the greatest chokepoint is the problem of self-support feeding ratio. The prime task is to improve the 100% of imported request of self-support feeding ratio.
